Explosion of Pines

Explosion of pines filling the skyline

Without order or logic

Irrigated by seasonal rain and snowfall

Nothing could be more wild.

Each of the thousand trees home to a myriad of spectacles:

Birds, squirrels, grubs, the like

Life pulsing and breathing regardless of man’s ability to hear it fall

Wild.

Tufts of green and yellow poking out from below a wooden fence

Irrigated by alley sludge leaking from underground sewers

Nothing could be more wild.

Each leaf distinct from its neighbor

Drawing nutrients upward from the waste of the wasteful

Life perfectly adapted to thrive in the most prohibitive environment

Wild.

Rows and rows of white cotton

brown and fragile plants beneath

Irrigated by rotating sprinklers spewing chemical-laden water

Nothing could be more wild.

Each fiber strong and intertwined

Each plant unique in its intricate structure winding and turning towards the sun

Despite the monotony of the farmer’s rows.

Life stronger than those who attempt to control it

Wild.
